What Are The Most Important Aspects Do You Look For When Selecting A Personal Fitness Trainer?

Beware of all the certifications out there for “personal trainers”. Some require no education at all. Beware of the individual who looks chiseled and claims to be self-educated. Just because someone is well developed doesn’t mean that they know about exercise physiology, especially understanding all variables with health, age, and genetics. We all develop differently.
There is a big problem because there actually is no regulation of who can call themselves a “personal trainer”. Some do more harm than good.
A personal trainer should have some formal (college level) education in exercise science, especially in exercise physiology and kinetics. The person should be certified in CPR as well.
The more reputable organizations are ACSM, NASM, and NSCA.

  3. Check out their experience. How long they have been one? What certifications? Do they specialize in certain areas – like strength training, etc.? Do you see them in the gym exercising themselves & how physically fit are they? A good indication how serious they are about it.
Also see how they interact with other clients and ask the gym the trainer works for to see who would be the best fit for what you want to get out of it.
